After the earthquake in 1970 the reconstruction of Huaraz was done for both the central government and the international help. A large mass of snow covered an entire city Yungay.
The whole city was rebuilt thank to people from many countries, foreigners learned about the detrimental effect on Huaraz and decided to involved themselves in order to help through organizations, some returned to their house others stayed here.
Huaraz city find itself in the middle of the Cordillera Blanca (White Mountain) and Cordillera Negra (Black Mountain), situated in the perfectly steep-sided called Callejón de Huaylas valley. The city possesses a naturally lively atmosphere, becoming it an excellent springboard for exploring the surrounding mountains; besides the hot stone saunas, stunning mountain range and beautiful glacier lake, Chavin of Huantar ruins, Llanganuco Lake and the holy cementery.
Coming either from Lima or Trujillo to Huaraz takes only a day´s bus ride (7hour and a half approximately), it is commonly known as one of the best place in Peru to do outdoor adventure as rock climbing, ice climbing, canoeing, and trekking.
